"Clouding or opacification of the natural lens is cataract. Cataract caused by old age (most commonly) or other reasons affects the clarity and the visual acuity. The lens startes loosing its transparent and become transluscent and then opaque. Cataract is the most common cause of vision impairment and blindness in the world."

The obscurity that builds up in the crystalline lens of the eye or in its lens capsule is known to be the cataract. Its effect may lead to partial or total cloudiness and it even blocks the passage of light.

Aspects such as direct contact of the eyes with the ultraviolet rays as well as ionizing radiation for an extended period of time, old age, resultant upshots of diabetes, hypertension and trauma influence the growth of cataract.

Such factors diminish the lens protein of the eye. Cataract may be inherited from the affected family members. In addition, severe damage to the eye and physical ordeal may lead to development of cataract. Due to the progression of various healing measures, cataract is curable completely. The loss of sight caused due to cataract is enhanced to the extent of 99%. Our hospital treats cataract using the most sophisticated technique of Restor Multifocal IOL/IQ Acrysof Intra Ocular Lens {IOL} implantation, which is otherwise known as Phacoemulsification Cataract Treatment. The advantage of undergoing this treatment is that the patient need not endure any injection, suture or pad.

Phacoemulsification is executed by giving topical, rather, regional anesthesia to the patient. The effected eye is numbed through the utilization of Paracaine eye drops due to which injection is not required. Post surgery patch is not attached by reason of which the patient can see and move the eye immediately after the accomplishment of the surgery.

How are cataracts treated?

The cataract is treated by surgery. An eye surgeon will remove your cloudy lens and in most cases, replace it with a clear, man-made focusing lens (intraocular lens implant, or IOL). The replacement lens implant remains permanently inside your eye and does not degrade.
Cataract surgery is usually a day case procedure, which means that you will go home on the day of your operation. However, you may wish to arrange for someone to stay overnight with you at home on the day of surgery.
